BYU Learning Suite - Exam Scores Changed in Grades Revert Back to Previous Score KB0025981

It has been noted that when a professor or TA make changes to exam scores in the Grades tab, that the scores will revert back to the first score that they received on the exam when any re-scoring is done. This is because the change to the score was not made in the exam itself and so the exam itself has the first score received by the student stored. This is a problem because the scores that are stored in the exam itself override the scores that are in the grade book. Therefore, when there is a re-score of any kind, the exam overrides the grade book and changes that exam score in the grade book back to the first score that was recorded.

To fix this score and change it to the desired correct score permanently, go into the exam itself and change the score for that student. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Exams tab
  2. Under the Exams tab, in the column on the left side of the screen, click on the Results tab.
  3. In the Results tab you can see all of the students in the class and their scores. There is a column named "Scoring". In that column, beside each attempt for each student, there is an option that says "Score now". Click on this option.
  4. This will take you to the exam and will show you the responses of the student and will give you the option of changing how many points students received for certain questions. They can highlight the box with the score for the question in it and type in the new, correct scoring for that question. This then changes the score of the exam for that student in both the Exams tab and the Grades tab.
  5. Refresh the page and then go back to the Results tab and make sure the grade transferred over for that quiz.
  6. You can also go another route and go directly to the scoring tab of the specific exam and then on the top of that page choose the student who has the incorrect score and the attempt number and then look back in results to make sure the score pushed through. NOTE: Before the professor can look for the student, they need to check the box on the top right hand side next to the attempts drop-down menu to"Show Student Names" so that they can find the student for which they want to change the score.
